Walking in the Lake District

About Us:

We walk every weekend, and alternate between Saturday one weekend and Sunday the next.  For Saturday walks, we car-share and on Sundays we hire a coach which enables us to do linear walks.

Saturday walks
The approximate mileage and ascent is shown on the programme.  There is no need to book – just turn up at Gilkes car park by 9.20am ready for departure by ar at 9.30am.  Spare cars can be left at Gilkes free of charge.  The start point of the walk with grid ref and time are shown on the programme.  If you wish to drive straight to the start of the walk, please do so but ring the Saturday Rambles Sec (Yvonne Houfe) with your contact details, in case there should be a change of plan due to inclement weather.

Sunday walks
Booking on the coach is essential.  Please phone the Coach secretary (Brian Baker) during the fortnight preceding the coach you wish to go on.  Should there be no answer when you phone, if you leave your contact details, Brian will phone you back.
Once the booking is confirmed, you will need to arrange with Brian whether you would like to get on the coach at Natland Road or Kendal Bus Station.  The coach fare is £7 and is collected on the return journey.  If, having booked, you wish to cancel, please do so as soon as possible – if it is within three days of departure, then the full fare is payable.
Once you are on the coach, you can book for the next coach to guarantee your place should you wish to do so.  If you do not wish to sign up for the next coach, then you will need to ring Brian during the fortnight prior to the next coach you wish to join.

The walks are graded and are usually as follows:
A- grade:                      Approx. 11-15 miles                2500– 4000 ft ascent
B-grade:                       Approx. 8-10 miles                  1000 – 2500 ft ascent
C-grade                       Approx. 6-8 miles                    No more than 1000 ft ascent

On Sundays, there are three walks to choose from and each leader will give a description of their proposed walk on the coach during the outward journey

Summer evening short walks ( approx 4 miles)
See details on back of programme – any queries, phone Alice Kramer as shown.
